About Tromsoe Airport Tromsø Airport (TOS) originates from the 1930s when a water aerodrome was in place. The airport as it is known today was opened in 1964 and now handles over 1,700,000 passengers per year. The terminal building has been rebuilt and modified a number of times, most recently in 1998. The Sixt car rental desk is located within the terminal building and is open from 0700-2400 daily for cheap car hire. Out of hours pick up and drop off is also available to make your car hire easily accessible whatever the time of your flight.

While you are in Tromsø, Norway From the airport to the city by car is only 2.4 miles. Right in the centre can be found northern Norway's largest collection of wooden houses, the oldest dating back to 1789. The region is northern enough to benefit from 24 hour sun during the summer. During the winter the sun barely rises but if you drive a short distance away from the city you may experience the stunning Northern Lights during winter, which is well worth the journey. The Lyngen Alps are also a short drive away. There are not many places in the world where you can see mountains complete with glaciers, and fjords directly at their base. We generally had good experiences with SIXT, but I really think that this in Tromso airport is the best branch of SIXT anywhere and that is because of the people that work there. We had a good experiences a couple of years ago and this year as we’re planning for the trip, Patric first and the Sondre were so knowledgeable nice and patient in giving advice and recommendations that made the all process so much more comfortable and really made us trust them. Sondre helped us a few times over the phone with general and specific advices on both cars and local knowledge and really went above and beyond. He made it so we didn’t even want to shop around and just wanted to rent the car from them as we got comfortable and confident that come pick up time we’ll get exactly what we expect. We’ll see in a month:) but for now we’re extremely pleased with our choice and experience
